The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) is a national registered professional body (nonprofit company) for the promotion and advancement of knowledge and skills, the maintenance of ethical and professional standards and the general development and progress of its members and of persons in the insurance industry.

The purpose of the IISA is to build capacity within the insurance industry through insurance skills development & exposure into insurance as a profession, thereby mitigating skills shortage, improving opportunities for employment & social security thus making a sustainable contribution to the insurance industry and the economy.

One of the key objective of the IISA as stipulated in the constitution is to provide and maintain a central organization for the promotion of efficiency, progress, knowledge, edcuational and skills development, welfare and the general good and development among persons engaged or employed in the insurance industry, whether Members or not and to set and communicate standards regarding professonalism and to achieve an image and reputation of excellence.

The abovementioned purpose is implemented through the IISA vision which is to provide sustainable skills development platforms within the insurance industry. The purpose and vision of the IISA is achieved through the following mission statements:

  • Minimizing the shortage of skills within the insurance industry;
  • Creating tangible impact and transformation for the industry and our country;
  • Elevating insurance as a career;
  • Obtain international recognition for the professional designations;
  • Establishing strategic partnerships and collaborations with relevant stakeholders in order to ensure improved insurance skills and dvelopment in Africa.
